Train from Rome to Sorrento

Trenitalia is the partially privatized state train system that runs most of the services in Italy. There are several types of trains: Regionale or Interregionale stop at all stations; Intercity (IC) or the very fast Eurostar Italia (ES) stop only at major cities. It is cheaper to buy all local train tickets in Italy.

Fiumicino airport is easily accessible by train. The Leonardo Express, the direct Fiumicino-Termini train run seven (7) days a week and cost €11 and takes approximately 30 minutes. The first train from the airport to Stazione Termini departs at 6:36 and runs half-hourly until 23:36. The first train from Stazione Termini to the airport departs at 5:52 and runs half-hourly until 22:52. At Roma Termini, the Leonardo Express arrives and departs from platform 24, in the main area of the station.

The train station at Naples, Stazione Centrale, is the rail hub for southern Italy. Participants can take a train from Rome's Stazione Termini or Stazione Roma-Ostiense and arrive at this station. The trip takes approximately two hours and one-way fares start at €10,50. For reservations and further information, please visit http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html

Ground Transportation from Naples to Sorrento

The Hilton Sorrento Palace is 40 minutes deom the Naples Airport and train station.

Train from Naples to Sorrento
The Circumvesuviana trains, located about 400m southwest of Stazione Centrale (take the underpass from Stazione Centrale), run every half-hour between Sorrento and Naples. The fare is approximately €3,20. Details in www.vesuviana.it

Almost every train (and several bus) journeys require passengers to validate their tickets before boarding. You simply punch your ticket in the yellow "convalida" machines installed at the entrance to all train platforms. On local buses, you validate your ticket on the bus or train itself. Getting caught with a ticket that has not been validated risks a hefty fine of up to €50, paid on the spot.

Car Rental
There are several car rental companies available at the Naples Airport and the central train station at the airport. For a current list of available rental car companies, please visit the Naples Tourism Board's website at: www.inaples.it/eng/indcat.asp?cod=23&om=3
